20th Century Modern Furniture and Accessories

About Machine Age

Residence in Newton, MA by Lawton Design Studio

Inspired by President Logan’s retro retreat in the hit TV series “24”, this interior remodel evokes an updated mid-century modern style. The open layout and floor to ceiling windows take advantage of the beautifully wooded site and allow for ample sunlight to animate the spaces. Upon entry, a stainless steel and Panelite railing allow filtered light to play off the stairs in the double height foyer. The custom mahogany paneled wall bisects the public and private living areas while warming up the spaces with a rich glow from the afternoon sun. Custom Sparkfire gas fireplaces bookend either end of the wall and provide a focus for the dining room and living room. Notable furniture pieces from Machine Age include: a custom Tete-a-Tete lounge sofa upholstered in Knoll textile (Coco, color Ciel), two custom upholstered Barcelona chairs, a Noguchi cyclone side table, an Eames rocker, and a cowhide Wegner shell chair.
